Farewell!

This time, I'm not going to start my post with, "Hello again!". Today, I'm going to say goodbye. I have finished all of my tasks for this term and my last task is to say goodbye to you. It has been a fantastic term, I have learned numerous things for my future teaching career. Corpora based teaching, flipped classroom teaching, augmented reality, Webquest... They all will help me in the future for sure. Also, in this modern age digital materials for teaching are crucial to adapt to new era. These are the most beneficial sides of this term for me.     However, I think this course not only has positive sides but also some weaknesses too and I have some recommendations. For example, the task which we were supposed to create augmented reality projects was excessively difficult. No one could find a properly working application and everyone had to resort to alternatives. In a way, it has a benefit for us too, it improved our problem solving skills. But still, it...

Webquest

Hey! Seems like it is correct that every good thing has an end... This is our final project for this term, after I'll publish it too, probably I'm going to disappear.     Our last task of this term was to create a Webquest about a project we selected from the coursebook which was given to us. Yüksel and I(don't forget to visit his blog too by clicking on his name.) chose the project 7, preparing a movie poster.     We used QuestGarden (click on it to visit) for creating a technology-enhanced project. It enables teachers to create a Webquest so easily. We first introduced the task, then we mentioned about the task in detail on the "task" section. After that, we told the steps to follow on the "process" tab and then we explained our rubric on "evaluation" section.      It is ready to be visited now. You can use the link below to reach. Until my farewell post, take great care!             ...

Augmented Reality

Resim
Hi there! We're coming closer to the end of the semester, again. But before we disappear, we created an augmented reality project. It is simply, and literally, about augmenting the reality through technology. Selected items seem 3D and real in a video after the target image is triggered by scanning. Our task was to introduce a city with its cuisine and destinations. My friend Yüksel and I(You can click on his name to see his blog) selected Alberta, Canada for our assignment. We introduced various destinations, a museum and a popular food from there. Also, we created a handout for you to follow the steps and be able to scan the images to see the videos. We used Canva to create the handout, and UniteAR for augmenting. (By clicking on them you can visit their sites.)     It was the hardest assignment this term for us. There were lots of challenges in front of us. For example, all of us, had problems with finding a correctly-working application. After a coup...

Flipped Grammar Teaching

Resim
Hello again! this week's task was to create a flipped grammar teaching video, similar to the previous week's task. My friend Yüksel and I(you can reach his blog by clicking on his name.) created a video and an activity to practice what we taught to our students. I created the activity and Yüksel created the video, when it comes to the script of the video, we wrote it together.      Actually, it was a pretty fun task, I had little to no difficulty while doing it, but trying to fit in a time limit was kind of hard, other than that it was easy and fun.     We used Slidepresenter for video and Wordwall for the activity to create them. (You can visit their sites by clicking on them.) Slidepresenter is the tool to voice your slides, and Wordwall is one of the best sites for a teacher to create after-course materials, it includes lots of different types of activities to create. When I will be a teacher, I will definitely use it in my class. ...

Flipped Vocabulary Teaching

Resim
Hello again! It's my second blog post since my blog's revival. :) This time, my friend Ezgi (you can reach her blog by clicking on her name.) and I created an entertaining video that teaches learners a certain vocabulary by flipping the classroom.       Basically, we first introduced the never-before-seen words to learners, by showing visuals and sounds of them, then we created a dialogue in which the words are spoken to reinforce learning. The 2 people included in the dialogue were chosen children by us deliberately because we thought learner children could found a bond if the people in the video were children and in our opinion, flipping a classroom and creating such material is really helpful for learners.       And, yes it is an efficient way of teaching but it is also onerous, at least for me. Because I have never created such material before and it was kind of hard for me, we didn't know how to use the tools. Nevertheless...

Language Awareness Task

Greetings from a Sunday morning, it has been a long time since my last post, but with the new course, Material Design in ELT, we decided to keep using our old blogs and I'm very happy about that.   As our first assignment, my pair  Ezgi  and I(you can visit her blog by clicking on her name.) created a language awareness task by using a corpus. Using a corpus is a necessity of data-driven learning. In data-driven learning, students acquire the language by exploring it themselves, and corpus is an enormous database containing lots of words and patterns. And, a language awareness task which we did on  Canva , encourages students to explore the language. You can check our work from below. See you later on our next assignment :)

THE FINAL POST

Greetings again! But for the last time... We have come to the end of the semester thus it is the last post of mine. I am delighted to be able to attend this class and learn things which will be my helpers in the future, I am so grateful to learn various tools and ways for integrating technology into education. However, as I should be, I am also sad because it came to an end.     Before getting this course, I was not an abstainer for integrating technology into education too. Though I had little to no ideas about how to do it. This course helped me to find "How?". It granted me so many tools such as Wikiis, Canva for so many things like creating a poster or infographic, Pixton, Padlet for taking notes, Vocaroo for making a podcast, Wordart for word clouds, and various unique experiences from the lessons.   From the tasks I counted above, I liked creating a movie poster the most. Because I love reading books and watching movies a lot and this assign...

Digital Storytelling

Resim
Greetings to all of you, while we are coming closer to the end of the semester, we are also coming closer to the end of my blog posts and assignments. This one, digital storytelling, was the second to last assignment. Also, this one was more demanding, it consumed lots of time, but more fun than the others. My friends, İdil , Eda , and I (You can reach their blogs by clicking on their names.) created a story at first, then narrated it. I believe that it is not only a fun process for us, the creators, but also it is fun for the children who will be our students in the future, yes, as everyone can understand from what I said, I am planning to use this digital storytelling technique in my classroom. I believe that success happens if you like the subject, school, and class. And I believe digital storytelling is fun enough to make students love the class.        We used Pixton for creating the story, it is a cool application to create unique cha...

Creating an infographic

Hello again! We are coming closer to the end of the semester, in other words, these are my probably last posts. :( I have the bittersweet feeling of that but I am also happy to have a wonderful task again. I created an infographic which is about the online courses during the pandemic in Turkey. I've mentioned how, when, etc., and gave tips for the students to be successful. Since I've been through online courses, it helped me a lot to create an infographic. Besides, I believe that an infographic can help a student because it is informative and eye-catching at the same time. I used "Canva" which is familiar to all of us from the last post of mine. Canva is an all-purpose app, one can create lots of things with it.      Here is the infographic that I made. Until the next post of mine, goodbye! ONLINE HIGHER EDUCATION IN TURKEY - Sabrican Demir

Creating a movie poster

Hello again! It has been a while since my last post, and I'm happy to be here again! This week's assignment was creating a poster for a movie, which is actually a book but I create one as if it is filmed, including quotes, the cast, producer, director in it and my aim was to make it eye-catching.        I chose this book because I chose the same book for the previous assignment of mine, and wanted to make the same book again as if this one is the sequel assignment of the first one, and the second reason is it is the last book that I read so it is easier for me to remember it in detail. :D       I used the website "Canva" to create my poster, it is a super easy and beneficial website to create a poster, I'd recommend everyone that website without a doubt. :) And surely I'll recommend it to my students as well. :)      And here is the movie poster that I created for the book "Breakthrough" Breakthro...

An Internet-Based Project

Greetings and felicitations! This week's task was creating an internet-based project, a wall on Padlet with my friends. We were supposed to write what we know, what we want to know, and what we learned about a subject among the 12 subjects that are given to us and we chose one of them, Coronavirus. We first created the wall and then made our search. We ornamented our wall with colorful, catchy but incentive, and informative GIFs. For me, it was a fun task to do in a classroom environment, I really had fun and probably my students would have fun in the future as well, and studying with my friends in an environment like this was full of fun.   Padlet also is a cool tool to take notes, it is colorful and feels as real as corkboards in our houses, and in an age like this, technology age, it is essential to do these works in a virtual environment, and this is when Padlet saves the day! What I am trying to say is that our students are gonna most likely to be nat...

Wikiing

Hello again! This week's task was creating a wiki page on a book. The book that I chose is "Breakthrough" by Ken Grimwood. It's a science-fiction and a mystery book.     Wikiing was a joyful task for me, it feels like you are spilling what you think about something and people read it to get the knowledge about the book or what they look for, and it is a pleasing feeling. Also creating a wiki is a fun process too, you are working with a community and you can see what others do, and of course, they can see and comment on yours too. Besides, it nearly has no difficulties, it's so easy to do. I would do wikiing in my class because I believe students can learn better while they are having fun, and it's a fun task. :)     You can reach my wiki task from the link below. :) http://bookreviews.pbworks.com/w/page/142304577/Breakthrough

My Short Story Podcast

H ello again! Today, a friend of mine and I, wrote and voiced a short story podcast for you. Its name is The Sheep Killer, it may be a little bit confusing story if you don’t listen to it carefully. Firstly, we wrote the story by using the randomly given words. Secondly, we revised what we wrote and proofread it. Then we searched for the sound effects and picked them for our story carefully. When all of this was over, we sounded it and then edited it with the effects we’ve decided before. Now it is ready to be listened and commented by all of you. :) View on Vocaroo >>      Even though it was a very fun process and task for us, it had some challenging parts too. For example, when we created the podcast, we took the embed link and pasted it directly to our blogs, and it took lots of time and didn’t work of course, as all of you know we are new at blogging. :) At last with a friend’s help, we managed to find the HTML tab to paste the embed link (finally...

21st Century Learning

Resim
We are living in an age that computers, the internet, or in the most general sense, technology surrounds us. Thus the new generation is well-adapted for the technology, in other words, they are digital natives. Because when they were born, the technology was already progressed enough or they grew up with it, but the old generation witnessed the advanced technology later than the new generation, in another saying, they immigrated. For instance, the new generation makes their research on the web, unlike the old generation who makes it in the library. Thus the 21st-century learning was structured in a way that it is based on not only tasks but also technology. To understand the new generation and our students better we need to integrate the technology into the learning process. But just integrating it is not sufficient of course, teachers must use pedagogic knowledge to make it efficient, otherwise; just using the technology is not helpful.

Welcome!

Hello! All of you are welcome to my blog! In this blog, I'll share my experiences and my assignments  during my educational technologies course with you. I hope you can enjoy it with me, because it seems like I'll enjoy a lot this term. :) I am an apprentice about blogging so I hope we can grow up together. Until my next blogging adventure, stay healthy and take care :)
